FUTA Student Wins Microsoft Competition

A 100 level student of the Federal University of Technology,
Akure, Saviour Okusenogu, has emerged winner in a science
Okusenogu, an Electrical/Electronic Engineering student, is one
of the 10 winners in the ‘Microsoft Youthspark Challenge for
Change’ contest held recently.
For emerging the best in Africa, Okusenogu won a Surface Pro 3
Computing System, $2,500 cash, a window telephone, as well as
a ticket to represent Africa in Nicaragua at the grand finale in
August.
At a reception held for him at FUTA, Okusenogu, whose project
title is ‘Become Inspired in Science and Engineering
Technology,’ regretted that many young people had a wrong
perception of science and technology.
“My project has to do with young adults and I decided to make
a change by starting with the young people in secondary
schools with the aim of inspiring them to have interest in
science and technology,’’ he said.
Okusenogu promised to make Nigeria and Africa proud by
working harder to excel in the global contest later in the year in
Nicaragua.
Okusenogu is a former President of the Junior Engineering
Technicians and Scientists.
The FUTA Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, who
expressed delight at his achievement, said he had further
brought recognition to the university.
